Conservation & Preservation
Stone sponsorship, archival preservation, and art restoration are all part of the major projects undertaken by the Notre-Dame Basilica Foundation in Montreal.
Your support and participation in our campaigns enable us to ensure the longevity of Notre-Dame Basilica for generations to come.
Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal requires urgent restoration work. Its historic infrastructure is showing signs of alarming deterioration, and in some sections, the situation has become critical enough to require temporary protection and stabilization measures pending permanent repairs.
The total cost of the conservation work is estimated at over $75 million. Without government assistance, the preservation of this heritage gem depends on the support of private partners. To date, the Fabrique de la paroisse Notre-Dame has already committed nearly $25 million in financial commitments to carry out its projects.
Le programme des travaux de restauration comprend deux grands volets : la restauration extérieure et la restauration intérieure. Il est maintenant possible de parrainer une pierre de votre choix via notre campagne majeure.
Major restoration work on the Basilica began in 2020 and is currently underway. The elements to be restored include the masonry, flashings, bell towers and their sound structures, as well as other architectural elements in order to preserve the exterior facade of Notre-Dame and the integrity of the building.
The restoration work on the interior decor includes the complete restoration and preservation of the mezzanines, walls and side chapels, as well as the Basilica's ceiling and vaulted structures.
